These are the questions our team hears most often from patients across Los Angeles. Each answer is short; follow the links for the full details. For anything else, call (424) 281-7392, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Appointments
How do I make an appointment?
Send the short appointment request form or call (424) 281-7392. Our team calls you back to find a time. Before your visit, you get a link to the patient portal to fill out your forms.
Where is the office?
The office is at 6333 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90048, in Mid-City West near the Miracle Mile. It is a few blocks west of the Metro D Line Wilshire/Fairfax station. Directions are on the contact page and the Mid-Wilshire page.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring a list of your medicines and allergies, reports from any past colonoscopy or endoscopy, recent lab and imaging results, and your questions. Your other doctors can fax records to (424) 440-2716. See the full list on our new patients page.
What conditions does Dr. Pimienta treat?
Dr. Pimienta cares for adults with digestive and liver conditions, such as acid reflux, abdominal pain, IBS, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, rectal bleeding, colon polyps and fatty liver disease. The conditions page lists them all with plain explanations.
How do I cancel or reschedule?
Call the office at least 24 hours before your appointment. This lets us offer the time to another patient who needs care.
Insurance and payment
Do you accept Medicare?
Yes. Dr. Pimienta accepts Medicare, including patients with a secondary (supplemental) plan. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, call us before booking so we can check your plan.
Do you take my PPO or other insurance?
The practice is out of network with PPO and other commercial plans, so visits are self-pay. Our team calls you to explain the price and how out-of-network benefits may work before anything is booked. Read more on the insurance and payment page.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt with the codes your insurance company needs. After a self-pay visit, you can send it to your insurance to ask to be paid back. Whether you are paid back, and how much, depends on your plan.
When do I pay?
Payment is due before the visit. For procedures, the surgery center, anesthesia and pathology may bill separately, and our team explains what to expect before your procedure.
Procedures
Where are colonoscopies and upper endoscopies done?
At Specialty Surgical Center of Beverly Hills, 8670 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 300, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, less than a mile west of the office. Learn more about colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (EGD).
Will I be asleep during the procedure?
You receive medicine for sedation so you are comfortable, and most people remember little or nothing of the exam. Because the medicine affects your judgment for the rest of the day, you need an adult to take you home.
Can I have a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy on the same day?
Yes. When you need both, they can often be done one after the other during the same visit to the surgery center. Dr. Pimienta will talk with you about what fits you.
How do I get ready for a colonoscopy?
You follow a special diet and drink a bowel prep so your colon is clean, which helps Dr. Pimienta see clearly. You get written instructions ahead of time. Our preparation page explains each step.
When should I start colorectal cancer screening?
Most adults at average risk should start at age 45. People with a family history or certain symptoms may need to start earlier. Read more on our colorectal cancer screening page.
Video visits
Can I see Dr. Pimienta by video?
Yes, if you are in California at the time of the visit. Video works well for many consultations, follow-ups and talks about test results. Some problems need an in-person exam or a procedure.
Can I get a same-day video visit as a new patient?
No. New-patient video visits are not same-day. Send a request or call, and our team will find the next available time.
What do I need for a video visit?
A phone, tablet or computer with a camera, microphone and internet, and a quiet, private place. Please do not join while driving. More tips are on the new patients page.
Language and access
Does Dr. Pimienta speak Spanish?
Yes. Dr. Pimienta speaks English and Spanish, and our team can help you in either language. You can read this website in Spanish using the language link at the top of the page.
Can I get there by Metro?
Yes. The Metro D Line runs along Wilshire Boulevard, and the office is a few blocks west of the Wilshire/Fairfax station. Ask our team about parking when you book if you plan to drive.
Do I need someone with me on procedure day?
Yes. After sedation, you need a responsible adult to take you home. Plan this ahead of time, because you should not drive, take a taxi or ride-share alone, or go home by bus after sedation.
