Los Angeles County is huge, and finding a gastroenterologist who listens, explains things clearly and speaks your language can take time. Dr. Michael Pimienta is a GI doctor who cares for adults with digestive and liver conditions. He trained in internal medicine at LAC+USC and completed his GI fellowship training at Stanford University, and he is triple board-certified in gastroenterology, obesity medicine and internal medicine. He sees patients at one office in Los Angeles, on Wilshire Boulevard, and by secure video.

Patients from across the county
The office is in Mid-City West, between Downtown and the Westside. That central spot means patients may come from across the county. Some may live close by, on the Westside or in Mid-City. Others may travel from Hollywood, Downtown or South Los Angeles. Still others may come from East Los Angeles or the South Bay. Some may make the trip from the San Fernando or San Gabriel Valley.
There is one office, at 6333 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90048. Dr. Pimienta does not have offices in those other areas, but video visits can save many people the drive.
People see a GI doctor for many reasons, such as:
- Colorectal cancer screening, which most adults at average risk should start at age 45
- Heartburn, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation or diarrhea
- Blood in the stool, colon polyps found on a past colonoscopy, or trouble swallowing
- Abnormal liver tests or fatty liver disease
- Medical weight management, with a doctor board-certified in obesity medicine
- A second opinion about a diagnosis or treatment plan
The conditions page explains each one in plain language.
Video visits from anywhere in California
If you live in the Antelope Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley or near Long Beach, you may not want to cross the county for every visit. Secure video visits let you talk with Dr. Pimienta from home or work, as long as you are in California at the time of the visit.

By Metro
The Metro D Line subway extension opened in May 2026. The D Line now reaches the Wilshire/Fairfax station from Downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown, and the office is a few blocks west of that station. If you live near another Metro line, you may be able to connect to the D Line downtown. Check Metro's D Line extension page for details.
By car
Freeway traffic in Los Angeles is hard to predict, especially at rush hour. Plan extra time so you are not rushing, and ask our team about parking when you book. If you are coming from far away, ask about a time of day that makes the drive easier.
If you need a procedure
Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy (EGD) are done at Specialty Surgical Center of Beverly Hills, at 8670 Wilshire Blvd, less than a mile west of the office. You go home the same day, and both exams can be done together if you need them.
Plan your ride home before procedure day. You receive sedation, so a responsible adult needs to take you home. You should not drive, and you should not travel home alone by bus or train. If you live far away, think about who can drive you and how long the trip will take.
The bowel prep for a colonoscopy starts the day before, so you will want to be near a bathroom at home. Our preparation page explains the steps.
Care in Spanish for LA's families
Many families in Los Angeles County speak Spanish at home. Dr. Pimienta speaks English and Spanish, so you can explain your symptoms, ask questions and understand your plan in the language you know best, without an interpreter. Se habla español. Our team can also help you schedule in Spanish, and this website is available in Spanish too. Family members are welcome at your visit, in person or on video.
Medicare and self-pay
Dr. Pimienta accepts Medicare, including patients with a secondary (supplemental) plan. Original Medicare does not require a referral to see a specialist. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, call us before booking so we can check your plan.
For other insurance, the practice is out of network, so visits are self-pay. Our team calls you to explain pricing and how out-of-network benefits may work before anything is booked, and you get a superbill you can send to your insurance. Read more on the insurance and payment page.
Do not drive across town for an emergency. If you are vomiting blood, have black or bloody stools with dizziness, have severe or worsening belly pain, or have yellow skin with confusion, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Questions patients ask
Does Dr. Pimienta have offices in other parts of Los Angeles County?
No. There is one office, at 6333 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles. Procedures are done at Specialty Surgical Center of Beverly Hills. Many visits can be done by video from anywhere in California.
I live far away. Can most of my care be by video?
Many consultations, follow-ups and test result visits can be done by video, as long as you are in California during the visit. Exams and procedures need to be in person. New-patient video visits are not same-day.
Can I take the Metro to the office?
Yes. The D Line now reaches the Wilshire/Fairfax station from Downtown Los Angeles and Koreatown, and the office is a few blocks west. After a procedure with sedation, you need an adult to take you home instead.
Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
Not with Original Medicare. With a Medicare Advantage plan, call us before booking so we can check your plan. Self-pay patients do not need a referral, but records from your other doctors help.
Can my family help me during the visit?
Yes. Family members are welcome to join you in person or on a video visit, and Dr. Pimienta can talk with all of you in English or Spanish.
